Sunil Tatkare, the Nationalist Congress Party Lok Sabha MP is the new state president of NCP. He comes in place of Jayant Patil. He was made the Maharashtra NCP chief by the Ajit Pawar-Praful Patel faction.
Patel took this step after he was removed as NCP working president. Patel said that Jayant Patil should give the charge to Sunil Tatkare.
“All decisions in Maharashtra will be fully taken by Sunil Tatkare,” said Patel.
Ajit Pawar, Sunil Tatkare and Patel were together in a coup against the Pawar faction. Tatkare rebelled and came on the side of Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar.
Ajit Pawar was unanimously elected as the leader of the legislature party.
This happened after Ajit Pawar joined the Eknath Shinde-BJP government.
He was made the Deputy Chief Minister along with eight other NCP MLAs. The eight MLAs have also been inducted as ministers.
Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party working president Supriya Sule has said that Tatkare and Patel should be sacked for “anti-party activities”.
Meanwhile, the NCP MP Tatkare has confirmed that he has taken over the responsibility of the party as NCP president. Earlier owing to the circumstances that emerged the NCP national president had sacked both Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare.
Tatkare did his college from Ferguson College, Pune.
Till very late, he was a government contractor. Later he joined the Congress party in 1984. He first became a legislator in 1995 on a Congress ticket.
Tatkare has been a minister on two occasions in the Maharashtra government, once as minister of energy and the other time as finance minister.
Aditi Sunil Tatkare, his daughter is also a legislator in the Maharashtra Assembly. The party was formed by Sharad Pawar in 1999 by Sharad Pawar, PA Sangma and Tariq Anwar after the trio were expelled by the Congress.
